UPS power failure maintenance and testing steps

What if UPS behavior is not "normal" or completely stops working? If there is a power outage, how do we know if there is electricity? Here are some tips that can provide assistance.

1. Ensure that the UPS is plugged in. If it cannot be 'turned on', please check if it is connected to the power supply and if the circuit breaker is not tripped.

2. Ensure that the UPS is set to 'on'. UPS equipment needs to be 'turned on' to operate. If a brand new UPS system has just been installed, the 'start' button needs to be pressed to make the base work. Inserting the UPS into a wall socket is not enough, it will not start working until the "ON" button is pressed, regardless of whether the LCD screen is lit up or not.

3. Check the fuse of UPS. If everything is done correctly and all wiring is checked, but the UPS still does not "turn on", it may be a problem with a blown fuse. Find professionals to inspect and replace.

4. Check the wiring. UPS devices should not use batteries when mains power is available! If you notice that it is using batteries when they should not be used, make sure to power the UPS and check the circuit breaker. If the device is in the "on" state and your power supply is normal, please contact the manufacturer's technical support.

5. Check the battery. If necessary, UPS should be able to provide backup power, even if the "battery replacement" status has not yet appeared, the battery may wear out due to frequent use. Use the UPS' 'self-test' function on a fully charged battery to ensure its proper functioning. If the test fails, the 'Replace Battery' indicator light will be displayed.

6. Adjust and balance the load appropriately. Ensure that the UPS size is suitable for the load and can handle it. If there is a three-phase UPS system, load balancing is crucial to avoid THD (or total harmonic distortion) issues. Insufficient use can result in energy waste.

7. Only connect the most important devices. If you notice that many devices are connected to the UPS, but not all devices are critical during a power outage, unplug it. This will extend the time for UPS to supply power to critical equipment and computers.
