Maintenance procedures and methods for external battery packs of UPS power supply

Number of views:66

In the power guarantee system, the external battery pack of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) plays a crucial role. It can quickly provide power in the event of a power outage, ensuring the continuous operation of critical equipment. However, regular maintenance is essential to ensure that the battery pack is always in good working condition. The following will provide a detailed introduction to the maintenance procedures and methods for the external battery pack of UPS power supply.

1、 Preparation work before maintenance

Before carrying out maintenance on the battery pack, the first thing to ensure is one's own safety. Wear protective equipment such as insulated gloves, goggles, etc. At the same time, prepare necessary tools such as multimeters, battery testers, cleaning tools, etc.

It is also necessary to be familiar with the relevant technical documents of UPS power supply and battery pack, understand their specifications, parameters, and operating requirements. Turn off the UPS power and ensure that the mains input is disconnected to prevent accidental electric shock.

2、 Appearance inspection

Firstly, conduct a visual inspection of the battery pack. Check if the battery casing is deformed, cracked, leaking, etc. If the outer shell is found to be damaged, the battery should be replaced immediately, as this may cause internal short circuits in the battery, affecting the performance and safety of the entire battery pack.

Check whether the connection terminals of the battery are corroded or loose. Corroded terminals can increase resistance and affect current transmission, while loose connections may lead to poor contact and even spark ignition. Use sandpaper or cleaning agent to clean corroded terminals and tighten loose connections.

3、 Battery voltage and internal resistance testing

Measure the voltage of each battery using a multimeter. Under normal circumstances, the voltage of the battery should be within a certain range of its rated voltage. If the voltage of a battery is significantly lower than that of other batteries, it may indicate that the battery has aged or been damaged.

Internal resistance testing is an important means of evaluating the health status of batteries. Use a professional battery internal resistance tester to compare the test results with the initial internal resistance data of the battery. An increase in internal resistance usually indicates a decrease in battery performance and requires further attention or replacement.

For example, the internal resistance of a new Eaton battery pack may be around 1 milliohm. If the internal resistance increases to over 5 milliohms after a period of use, battery replacement needs to be considered.
